Stop Work Notice partially lifted on large Belconnen building site

Released 24/07/2019

Access Canberra has partially lifted the stop work notice that was issued on 11 July 2019 at a large Belconnen construction site today.
The majority of the site is now not subject to the notice after the development and building approvals were amended as required. Work is expected to recommence on the site soon.

Small areas of the site remain shut down as a result of pending development approval conditions.

ACT Construction Occupations Registrar Ben Green said the action taken by Access Canberra demonstrated enforcement activity will be undertaken on sites, including where builders do not build in accordance with the development and building approvals.

“We will continue to investigate this matter to determine how the building work was able to be undertaken inconsistent with the development and building approvals,” he said.

“I’d like to remind all builders and developers to ensure that all necessary development and building approvals are in place to support compliant development in the ACT.”
