27 September 2011 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

Prior to the Cabinet, meetings of the Urban Development Committee and Budget Committee were held.  Relevant officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of significance.

Government Real Estate Policy Update

Cabinet agreed the amendments to the Government Real Estate Policy (GREP) following its annual review.  Amendments cover policies associated with sustainable use of Government office buildings including green leasing, Triple Bottom Line evaluations for potentially surplus properties, workplace Health and Safely policies applied to fit out of offices occupied by Government and all hirers of government properties are required to have public liability insurance.  Further information on the GREP is available on the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate Webiteimg-icn-extlink.

ACT Environmental Leasing Policy

Cabinet agreed the ACT Environmental Leasing Policy (ACTELP) which supports the implementation of the National Green Leasing Policy which encourages improvements to the energy efficiency of commercial office buildings. ACT Carers Charter

Cabinet agreed the ACT Carers Charter which seeks to provide recognition and ensure adequate support for persons who provide unpaid primary care to someone else who is dependent on the person for ongoing care and assistance. Cabinet endorsed the following appointments:

University of Canberra Council

The Chief Minister will announce the appointments following consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.

Government Schools Education Council Appointment

The Minister will announce the appointments following consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.

Domestic Violence Prevention Council

The Attorney General will announce the appointments following consultation with the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety.

ACT Natural Resource Management Council

Ms Caroline Hughes as part-time member for a period of three years commencing 27 September 2011
