As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

Meetings of the Budget Committee of Cabinet were held.  Treasury officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of fiscal significance.

A meeting of the Urban Development Committee of Cabinet was also held.  Relevant officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of development and planning significance.

Financial Management (Cost of Living) Amendment Bill 2012

Cabinet agreed the Government position in relation to the Private Member’s Financial Management (Cost of Living) Amendment Bill 2012, as presented by Mr Brendan Smyth MLA on 22 February 2012.  The Government will seek amendments to the Bill, as Tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 2 May 2012.  The Private Member’s Bill and Government Amendments are available on the ACT Legislation Registerimg-icn-extlink

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body Amendment Bill

Cabinet agreed to present the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body Amendment Bill 2012 in the ACT Legislative Assembly during the May 2012 sitting weeks.  The Bill, as presented is available on the Community Services Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink

Appointments

Mental Health Official Visitor

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of a Mental Health Official Visitor, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

ACT Work Safety Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of part time members to the ACT Work Safety Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

Non-Government Schools Education Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of a part time member to the Non-Government Schools Education Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

Legal Aid Review Committee

Cabinet agreed to endorse the following part-time appointments to the Legal Aid Review Committee:

  • Ms Susan Abbott;
  • Mr James Crosby;
  • Ms Carrie Ann Fowlie;
  • Mr Terry Giesecke;
  • Ms Ellnor Grassby;
  • Ms Rae Harvey; and
  • Ms Danielle Hyndes.
