As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A meeting of the Urban Development Committee of Cabinet was held.  Relevant officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of development and planning significance.

ACT Older Persons Assembly Report and Government Response

Cabinet agreed the Report on the ACT Older Persons Assembly be tabled in the Assembly, along with the Government’s Response to recommendations made in the Report.  In 2011, the Legislative Assembly passed a resolution to hold an Older Persons Assembly and the Government committed to respond to individual motions and recommendations made by that Assembly.  The Government’s Response outlines actions taken in respect of each recommendation. Electoral Amendment Bill 2012

Cabinet agreed the Electoral Amendment Bill 2012.  The Bill will be presented to the Assembly and establishes a cap on political donations and expenditure.  It also better defines gifts made to political parties.  The Bill can be found on the ACT Legislation Directoryimg-icn-extlink.

Justice and Community Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2012

Cabinet agreed to introduce the Justice and Community Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2012.  The Bill makes a suite of minor amendments to improve and clarify legislation administered by the Justice and Community Safety Directorate.  Ten Acts will be amended by the Bill. Electronic Transactions Amendment Bill 2012

Cabinet agreed to introduce the Electronic Transactions Amendment Bill 2012.  The amendments enact national model legislation, which updates electronic transaction regimes to reflect internationally recognised legal standards on e-commerce.  The same amendments are being made by all Australian Governments. Cabinet agreed to endorse the following appointments:

ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Sexual Health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and Related Diseases

  • Re-appoint as members Mr Andrew Burry and Ms Jane Sharman; and
  • Appoint as members Mr John Didlick, Ms Joanne Smith and Ms Nicole Wiggins.

  • Mr Shane O’Leary, Executive Director, Tourism, Events and Sport, Economic Development Directorate.
