7 February 2012- Summary of Cabinet Outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among the matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A meeting of the Budget Committee of Cabinet was held.  Treasury officials joined with Ministers to discuss matters of fiscal significance.

R18+ Classification Category for Computer Games

Cabinet agreed to draft legislation introducing an R18+ classification category for computer games in the ACT.  The legislation will make it an offence to sell or deliver a computer game to a child, if the game is classified R18+.  This brings computer game regulation into line with that of films.

Healthy Kids Check Implementation Plan

Cabinet agreed the Healthy Kids Check Implementation Plan.  The Plan aims to ensure every four year old child has a basic health assessment to determine if they are healthy, fit and ready to learn when they start school.  A copy of the Healthy Kids Check Implementation Plan can be found here and  and correspondence between the Australian Minister for Health and the ACT Minister for Health can be found on the Health Directorate Websiteimg-icn-extlink.

2012 Report on Government Services

Cabinet considered the 2012 Report on Government Services produced by the Productivity Commission.  Further information relating to the Territory’s performance can be found on the Productivity Commission Websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Appointments

ACT Remuneration Tribunal

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of Dr Colin Adrian as a part time member  of the ACT Remuneration Tribunal.

Gambling and Racing Commission Governing Board

Cabinet agreed to proposed appointments to the Gambling and Racing Commission Governing Board, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

Magistrate Court

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of Mr Peter Morrison as a full time Magistrate.

Supreme Court

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of Mr John Roscoe Neild and Ms Margaret Sidis as acting Judges of the Supreme Court.

ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal

Cabinet agreed to endorse the appointment of Ms Elizabeth Symons as a part-time presidential member of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Cabinet agreed to proposed appointments of non-presidential members of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal, subject to Standing Committee consultation.
