Week commencing 27 August 2013 - Summary of Cabinet Outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet.  It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet.  Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy.  Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Government Priorities 2013-14

Cabinet confirmed the Government’s 2013-14 annual priorities. The Government’s vision for the ACT is for Canberra to be Australia’s most liveable city and has identified four strategic themes in order to achieve this vision:

  • liveability and opportunity;
  • growing the economy; healthy and smart; and
  • urban renewal.

The Government will set priorities annually to progress each of these objectives and deliver them in the broader context of our fiscal strategy to achieve balanced budgets.  These priorities and initiatives reflect the Government’s values of fairness and opportunity and provide targeted assistance where required.  

ACT Government Implementation Plan in response to the report titled: Evaluation of the Australian Capital Territory Drug Diversion Programs

Cabinet agreed to the Evaluation of the Australian Capital Territory Drug Diversion Programs 2013 and the associated implementation plan.  The program will be publically released when finalised.

Centenary of Canberra Quarterly Reports 11 & 12

Cabinet received an update on the many events that have taken place in the period December 2012 to May 2013 to celebrate Canberra’s centenary year.  These included:

  • the 100th birthday celebrations held on 11 March 2013;
  • 21 Parties at the Shops;
  • presentation of Centenary medallions to 21 babies born on 12 March 2013;
  • the Indigenous Cultural Program, encompassing 64 events and almost 400 participants from more than 50 locations around Australia;
  • the successful launch of the Skywhale, which has accumulated  over 1,000 references in the national and international media; and
  • a dance tribute to Australian Parliament House, Monument, premiered by The Australian Ballet at Canberra Theatre Centre on 23 May.

Appointments

Cabinet agreed to endorse Ms Tracey Whetnall, Ms Narelle Hargreaves and Ms Dianne Lucas as part-time Official Visitors for a six month period.

Cabinet agreed to endorse a number of proposed appointments to the ACT Work Safety Council subject to Standing Committee consultation.
