Management of loose fill asbestos insulation in the ACT

Cabinet agreed to send reminder letters to residents and owners of houses which were part of the Loose Asbestos Insulation Removal Program (the Program), which was conducted from 1988 through to 1993, to reconfirm the likely presence of loose-fill asbestos and reminding them of the need to take care when undertaking all types of alterations or renovations.

Direct sale to Sakya Losal Choe-Dzong United Tibetan Buddhist Society of Canberra Incorporated

Cabinet agreed to the direct sale of Block 21 Section 277 Kambah to the Sakya Losal Choe Dzong Tibetan Buddhist Society of Canberra Incorporated for the purpose of a place of worship and religious associated uses.  A map of the relevant Block and eligibility criteria assessment are available on the Economic, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate websiteimg-icn-extlink.

Health Infrastructure Program measures to minimise growth in energy and water consumption in the Health Directorate

Cabinet noted measures taken within the Health Infrastructure Program to minimise growth in ACT Health’s energy and water consumption while health services, facilities and infrastructure continue to be expanded to meet immediate and future demand for healthcare.

Bilateral reform - ‘one-stop-shop’ for environmental approvals

The ACT Government has signed a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) with the Commonwealth Government to develop a ‘one-stop-shop’ for environmental approvals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The ‘one-stop-shop’ aims to remove duplication in assessment and approval processes, while maintain environmental outcomes.  Cabinet noted the approach for the proposed ‘one-stop-shop’ negotiations with the Commonwealth, which are set to commence in early 2014. Appointments

Public Trustee Investment Board

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointment of a part-time member of the Public Trustee Investment Board, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

ACT Heritage Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointments of part-time members to the ACT Heritage Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.

ACT Work Safety Council

Cabinet agreed to endorse the proposed appointments of part-time members to the ACT Work Safety Council subject to Standing Committee consultation on members’ appointments that are not public servants.  Cabinet also agreed to endorse the proposed appointment of:

  • Executive Director, Continuous Improvement and Workers Compensation, Chief Minister and Treasury Directorate, as a Ministerial Appointee; and
  • Director, Office of Industrial Relations, Chief Minister and Treasury Directorate, as an Acting-Ministerial Appointee.
