SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES WEEK COMMENCING 13 APRIL 2015

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Red Tape Reduction Omnibus Bill

Cabinet discussed an omnibus bill to reduce unnecessary red tape on employers and the private sector.

Land Development Agency proposal

Cabinet considered a proposal by the Land Development Agency to acquire land for conservation and management, with the potential to use the land as a future environmental offset.

Inquiry by the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee into the Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2014

Cabinet discussed the ACT Government Submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee (the Committee) Inquiry into the Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2014 (the Regulator Bill). The submission outlined:

  • the government support for the compassionate intent behind the Regulator Bill; and
  • provides in-principle support for the development of rules that will ensure the tightly regulated supply, distribution and use of medicinal cannabis products based upon agreed national standards.

The Greens Minister did not support the submission in its current form.

Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme

Cabinet discussed the future of the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme beyond the current legislated end date of 31 December 2015.

Public Housing Renewal Program

Cabinet discussed the Public Housing Renewal Program, including that a Public Housing Renewal Steering Committee has been established to oversee the program.

Legal Aid Review Committee appointments

Cabinet endorsed the appointment of community panel members for participation in Legal Aid Review Committees.
