SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES FOR 10 AUGUST 2015

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Government responses

Cabinet approved the following proposed government responses.

  • Government Response to the Select Committee onEstimates Report on the Appropriation Bill 2015-16.
  • Government Response to Section 57 Coroner's Report– ACTAS issues.
  • Government Response to the Auditor-General's ReportNo. 3 of 2015 – Restoration of the Lower Cotter Catchment.
  • Government Response to the Domestic ViolencePrevention Council Extraordinary Meeting Report.

Processes for strengthening ACT's response to domestic and family violence

Cabinet approved a number of matters relating to domestic and family violence in the ACT, including: the government response to the report from the DVPC extraordinary meeting ; the profile of Commonwealth and ACT funding information; arrangements to support domestic and family violence prevention; and the amendment of legislation to better protect victims of domestic and family violence.

Second Implementation Plan under the ACT Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Strategy 2011–17

Cabinet approved the implementation of reporting requirements under the Second Implementation Plan (2IP) of the ACT Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Strategy 2011–17.   All ACT Government directorates will be required to report against relevant actions in the 2IP in individual Directorate Action Plans.

ACT Children and Young People's Commitment 2015–2025

Cabinet considered t he ACT Children and Young People's Commitment 2015–2025, which has been developed to provide a common and shared vision for children and young people across both the community and government.

Victims of Crime (Victims Services Levy) Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet approved the introduction of the Victims of Crime (Victims Services Levy) Amendment Bill 2015 in the Legislative Assembly in the second week of the August sittings. The Bill would raise the Victims Services Levy to provide increased support for victims of crime.

Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet approved the introduction of the Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 in the Legislative Assembly in the second week of the August sittings. The Bill will amend various pieces of legislation concerned with the operation of the criminal justice system to resolve issues raised by justice stakeholders or identified by the Justice and Community Safety Directorate.

Crimes (Child Sex Offenders) Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet approved the introduction of the Crimes (Child Sex Offenders) Amendment Bill 2015 in the Legislative Assembly in the second week of the August sittings. The Bill will amend the ACT's child sex offender legislation.

Appointments

Cabinet endorsed the proposed:

  • Official Visitor (Children and Young People)appointment;
  • Liquor Advisory Board member appointments; and
  • Cultural Facilities Corporation Board appointments.
