SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES FOR 25 AUGUST 2015

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Social Inclusion and Equality Subcommittee of Cabinet

Cabinet Ministers and Executives were briefed on social inclusion and equality priorities in the ACT and discussed statutory rights protection services, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework, the Active Ageing Framework and early intervention on domestic violence.

University of Canberra Public Hospital project background

Cabinet noted the progress update on the University of Canberra Public Hospital, including the procurement process for a head contractor.

Double Jeopardy reform

Cabinet approved the drafting of legislation to make amendments to criminal procedure law in relation to the double jeopardy principle. The proposed amendments, which will allow re-trials in certain circumstances, will improve justice outcomes and public confidence in the criminal justice system.

ACT Government Response to the Implementation Status Report

Report on the implementation of AP2: A New Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan for the Australian Capital Territory

Cabinet agreed to the proposed government response to the Implementation Status Report on the implementation of AP2: A New Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan for the Australian Capital Territory. The response is supportive of the ACT Government’s commitment to reduce emissions and promote sustainable development.

Future of Special Needs Transport under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Cabinet noted the update on changes to be made to the Special Needs Transport Program for students with disability in 2016 and progress towards transition of student transport to the NDIS.

Cabinet endorsed the proposed Youth Advisory Council appointments.
