SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES FOR WEEK COMMENCING 18 MAY 2015 

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A Security and Emergency Management Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers met with officials including the Chief Police Officer and the Chief Health Officer to discuss security and emergency management issues for the ACT.

A Budget Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers met with Treasury officials to discuss matters of fiscal importance to the ACT.

Social Inclusion & Equality Subcommittee

A meeting was convened for the Social Inclusion & Equality Subcommittee of Cabinet. Ministers and relevant officials discussed issues of social inclusion and equality, including providing better services to the Canberra community.

Building an Integrated Transport Network – Active Travel

Cabinet considered the Building an Integrated Transport Network – Active Travel framework. This framework establishes principles and interventions required to achieve the vision and targets for Active Travel in the ACT, and identifies actions to ensure that the Active Travel Framework principles are met.

Building an Integrated Transport Network – Parking

Cabinet noted the Building an Integrated Transport Network – Parking framework, which sets out a strategy and actions for the management of the demand for parking as discussed at the Special Parking Meeting on 4 November 2014.

The Importance of Obesity Prevention

Cabinet noted the importance of overweight and obesity as a detrimental risk factor for the health of the majority of Canberrans and an important contributor to health costs, and considered enablers and barriers to the successful implementation of the Healthy Weight Action Plan.

TAMS/ACTION Workers Compensation Insurance Premiums Quarterly Report

Cabinet was provided with an update on the Territory and Municipal Services Directorate and ACTION buses performance against key workers compensation performance indicators.

Appointments

Cabinet endorsed the appointment of:

  • the Executive Director, Economic and Financial Group in the ChiefMinister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate as the CTP Regulator for the ACT for a period of five years commencing on the day after the instrument is made;
  • the Director, Financial Framework Management and Insurance in the ChiefMinister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate as the Acting CTP Regulator for a period of five years commencing on the day after the instrument is made;
  • a Chair, Deputy Chair and five Members to the Scientific Committee for aperiod of three years, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Planning, Environment and Territory and Municipal Services;
  • three Drug and Alcohol Analysts under the Rail Safety National Law (ACT) Act 2014, subject to consultationwith the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety; and
  • two Members to the Board of Senior Secondary Studies until 31 December2017, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.
