SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES WEEK COMMENCING 25 MAY 2015

As part of the ACT Government's Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government's executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A Capital Metro Subcommittee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers were provided with an update on the Capital Metro project and considered options for the future delivery of a light rail service for the ACT.

A Budget Committee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers met with Treasury officials to discuss matters of fiscal importance in the lead up to the release of the ACT Budget on 2 June 2015.

Economic Growth and Urban Renewal Subcommittee

An Economic Growth and Urban Renewal Subcommittee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Ministers and relevant officials discussed options for a range of urban renewal projects, and received updates about public housing renewal and proposed Territory Plan Variations.

Government Response to the Auditor-General's Report No. 2 of 2015 – Rehabilitation of Male Detainees at the Alexander Maconochie Centre

Cabinet endorsed the ACT Government response to the audit report of the audit of The Rehabilitation of Male Detainees at the Alexander Maconochie Centre, which was presented to the Legislative Assembly by the ACT Auditor-General on 17 April 2015.

Draft ACT Biosecurity Strategy

Cabinet agreed to release the Draft ACT Biosecurity Strategy for public consultation. The Strategy aims to communicate a clear vision and build support for a strong and integrated biosecurity system for the ACT that is aligned with the priorities of local and national stakeholders and contributes to the wellbeing and prosperity of the ACT.

Mental Health Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the Mental Health Bill 2015, which provides the last statutory provisions required to implement the Mental Health (Treatment and Care) Act 1994. Cabinet agreed to the tabling of the Bill in the Legislative Assembly in the June sitting. The Bill will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.

Energy Efficiency (Cost of Living) Improvement (Extension) Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the tabling of a Bill to extend the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme (EEIS), provided for by the Energy Efficiency (Cost of Living) Improvement Act 2012. Extending the EEIS aligns with the ACT Government's priority to improve liveability and opportunity in the ACT and implements commitments under the Government's Sustainable Energy Policy and Climate Strategy. The Bill will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.

NRMA–ACT Road Safety Trust Repeal Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the tabling of the NRMA–ACT Road Safety Trust Repeal Bill 2015, which provides transitional arrangements to preserve indemnity for trustee actions for 15 years after the repeal of the Act. The Bill will be available on the ACT Legislation Register following presentation.

Appointment to the Canberra Institute of Technology Governing Board

Cabinet endorsed the appointment of a chair, deputy chair, two ordinary members, a staff member, a student member and two public service members to the Canberra Institute of Technology Governing Board from 1 July 2015, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Education, Training and Youth Affairs.

 

Cabinet Secretary
