SUMMARY OF CABINET OUTCOMES FOR 20 OCTOBER 2015

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A Social Inclusion and Equality Subcommittee of Cabinet meeting was convened. Relevant Ministers met with senior government officials to discuss social inclusion and equality matters and the forward work program for the subcommittee.

Transport Canberra – Light Rail Network

Cabinet considered publication of materials about the Light Rail Network as part of the Government’s Public Transport Improvement Plan.

Government response to the MRCagney Report

Cabinet considered the release of the MRCagney report on public transport, along with a policy response in regards to the establishment of Transport Canberra.

Direct Sale to the Sri Lankan Dhamma Vihara Association of Canberra

Cabinet endorsed the direct sale of part Block 17 Section 73 Nicholls to the Sri Lankan Dhamma Vihara Association of Canberra Incorporated for the development of a place of worship and associated religious facilities.

Revenue (Charitable Organisations) Legislation Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the introduction of the Revenue (Charitable Organisations) Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 in the October sittings of the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the introduction of the Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2015, which will introduce minor policy and technical amendments to legislation administered by the ACT Revenue Office.

Animal Diseases (Beekeeping) Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet agreed to the Animal Diseases (Beekeeping) Amendment Bill 2015, which introduces a beekeeping registration system so that beekeepers and hives can be quickly identified in the case of a bee biosecurity incident. The Bill will be introduced in the October sittings of the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Holidays Amendment Bill 2015

Cabinet endorsed the introduction of the Holidays Amendment Bill 2015, which amends the Holidays Act 1958 to make Easter Sunday a public holiday. The Bill will be introduced in the October sittings of the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Appointments

Cabinet endorsed the proposed appointment of a part-time member of the Tree Advisory Panel from 30 June 2015 to 29 June 2017, subject to consultation with the Standing Committee on Planning, Environment and Territory and Municipal Services.
