As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Protection of Rights (Services) Legislation Amendment Bill 2016

Cabinet endorsed the introduction of technical amendments to support the reform of rights protection entities in the Territory.  The amendments in this bill complement the changes introduced by the Protection of Rights (Services) Legislation Amendment Act 2016.

Government Response to the Public Accounts Committee on the Review of the Auditor-General’s Report No 8 of 2013:  Management of Funding for Community Services

Cabinet endorsed the Government’s response to a Standing Committee on Public Accounts review of the Auditor-General’s Report on the Management of funding for Community Services.  The Government’s response highlights its risk management practices, and its improved systems for the management of grants and funding.

ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal Bill

Cabinet considered amendments to improve the capabilities of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.  The amendments reflect potential changes to the structure and management of the Tribunal’s business.

Emergencies Act

Cabinet considered proposed amendments to the Emergencies Act 2004.

Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes)

Cabinet considered suggested amendments to the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009.

Workers Compensation (Asbestos Related Diseases)

Cabinet considered issues related to asbestos in the Workers Compensation Act 1951.

Government Response to Public Accounts Committal Report No. 16 of 2015 – NPA on Homelessness
Cabinet endorsed the tabling of the Government’s response to a Public Accounts Committee Report on the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness.  The Government’s response agrees to the Committee’s recommendations, and covers improved monitoring and compliance.

Smoke Free Public Places Amendment Bill

Cabinet endorsed the introduction of the Smoke Free Public Places Amendment Bill 2016, which would introduce legislation to facilitate the creation of smoke free areas in public.

Cabinet considered and endorsed Ministerial statements to be made on the following topics.

  • Minister Fitzharris priorities statement.
  • Progress on the delivery of the ACT Environmental Weeds Management Program.

  • Cabinet endorsed the following appointments.
  • Domestic Violence Prevention Council.
  • Principal Registrar of the ACT Courts.
  • Appointment to the Public Trustee Investment Board.
  • Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing.
