It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A meeting of the Budget Committee of Cabinet was convened. Ministers and Treasury officials discussed items of fiscal importance to the ACT.  

Waste Management and Resources Recovery Bill 2016

Cabinet endorsed the Waste Management and Resources Recovery Bill 2016, which introduces a new regulatory framework for waste facilities and transporters. Cabinet agreed to introduce the Bill in the Legislative Assembly during the June sitting week.

Transport Canberra – Performance, Accountability and Reform

Cabinet supported the Transport Canberra – Performance, Accountability and Reform framework.

Section 57: Executive response to Coroner’s report

Cabinet supported the Executive response to a recent Coroner’s report and agreed to the tabling of the report in the Legislative Assembly during the June sitting week.

Memorandum of Understanding for Twinning partnership with Vanuatu

Cabinet endorsed the Memorandum of Understanding for a Twinning partnership with Vanuatu. Cabinet agreed that the ACT Emergency Services Agency enter into a long-term relationship with the Republic of Vanuatu in relation to fire and other emergency management activities.

ACT Biosecurity Strategy

Cabinet supported the public release of the ACT Biosecurity Strategy. The Strategy outlines the ACT approach to protecting agribusiness, environment and communities from biosecurity threats.

Crimes (Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence) Amendment Bill 2016

Cabinet endorsed the Family Violence Bill 2016 and the Personal Violence Bill 2016. These Bills address key elements of the Government’s approach to reform to family violence services. Cabinet agreed to introduction of the Bills in the Legislative Assembly during the June sitting week.

Cabinet endorsed a Ministerial Statement regarding funding for Radio 1RPH.

Appointments

Cabinet endorsed an appointment to the Children & Young People Death Review Committee.
