Summary of Cabinet Outcomes for the Week of 7 August 2017

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A meeting of the Security and Emergency Management Committee of Cabinet was convened. Ministers and relevant officials were briefed on security and emergency management in the ACT.

Legislation Subcommittee

A meeting of the Legislation Subcommittee was convened. The Subcommittee discussed a range of Government business for the Legislative Assembly.

Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Negotiations Subcommittee

A meeting of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Negotiation Subcommittee was convened.  Ministers and relevant officials discussed matters relating to upcoming enterprise bargaining negotiations.

Human Services and Social Inclusion Subcommittee

A meeting of the Human Services and Social Inclusion Subcommittee was convened.  Ministers and relevant officials discussed matters to ensure all Canberrans have access to the right human services when they are needed, that they can enjoy the opportunities provided by the city and are included and respected in the community.

Economic Development Subcommittee

A meeting of the Economic Development Subcommittee was convened.  Ministers and officials discussed economic development matters currently affecting the ACT.

Government Response to Auditor-Generals Report No 4/2017 Performance Information in ACT Public Schools

Cabinet agreed to the Government response to the Auditor-General’s report number 4/2017 Performance Information in ACT Public Schools.

Outcomes of the Review of the Next Generation Renewables Auction and Large Feed-in Tariff Act

Cabinet agreed to the Government’s response to the recommendations of the recently completed review of the 200 megawatt Next Generation Renewables Auction and the operation of the Electricity Feed-in (Large-scale Renewable Energy Generation) Act 2011.

Holidays (Reconciliation Day) Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to the Holidays (Reconciliation Day) Amendment Bill 2017.  The Bill amends the Holidays Act 1958 by declaring 27 May to be Reconciliation Day or, if that day is not a Monday, the following Monday.  The Bill also removes Family and Community Day and its definition.

Workers Compensation Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to amend the Workers Compensation Act 1951 and associated regulations to:

  • modernise the schedule of employment–related diseases;
  • increase statutory death entitlements to align with the Commonwealth’s Comcare workers’ compensation scheme;
  • align the age restriction for accessing weekly incapacity payments with the Commonwealth pension age; and
  • introduce a penalty for employers who refuse to pay weekly compensation to injured workers.

Light Rail Stage 2 – Definition Phase Update

Cabinet was updated on Light Rail Stage 2 Definition Phase activities to date and agreed to the release of a light rail update.

Appointments

Cabinet endorsed appointments to the Work Safety Council.
