Summary of Cabinet Outcomes

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Committees of Cabinet

A meeting of the Budget Committee of Cabinet was convened. Ministers and Treasury officials discussed items of fiscal importance to the ACT.

The Utilities (Streetlight Network) Legislation Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to the presentation of the Utilities (Streetlight Network) Legislation Amendment Bill 2017 (the Bill) in the May 2017 sitting period.

Planning and Development Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to the drafting of the Planning and Development Amendment Bill 2017 amending the Planning and Development Act 2007 to improve the operation of the Act and reduce red tape.

Nature Conservation (Minor Public Works) Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to the drafting of the Nature Conservation (Minor Public Works) Amendment Bill 2017 amending the Planning and Development Act 2007 and the Nature Conservation Act 2014 to reduce red tape.  The Greens Minister reserved his position on the proposed Bill.

Lands Acquisition Amendment Bill 2017

Cabinet agreed to the drafting of the Lands Acquisition Amendment Bill 2017 amending the Lands Acquisition Act 1994 to include a time limit by when applications for compensation may be made.

Education Funding Issues

Cabinet noted a summary of expected changes in Commonwealth education funding.

ACT Emergency Services Agency Progress against the Expenditure Review Committee Recommendations

Cabinet noted an update on work by the ACT Emergency Services Agency to progress the recommendations of the Expenditure Review Committee Summary Findings 2015.

Ministerial Statements

Cabinet endorsed Ministerial statements for the May sitting of the Legislative Assembly on the following topics:

  • Singapore Delegation April 2017.
  • The Canberra Hospital.
  • Blueprint for Youth Justice in the ACT.
  • Response to Resolution of 14 December 2016 – update on recommendations arising from reviews that have been agreed to by Government that relate to the operations of the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
  • The importance of Volunteering in the ACT.
