Summary of Cabinet Outcomes for the Week of 30 October 2017

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Legislation considered by Cabinet

Cabinet agreed the following legislation be tabled during the October/November 2017 Legislative Assembly sitting period:

  • Reportable Conduct and Information Sharing Amendment Bill 2017.
  • Racing (Greyhounds) Amendment Bill 2017.
  • Domestic Animals (Racing Greyhounds) Amendment Bill 2017.

Including religious institutions in the reportable conduct scheme – approval to release discussion paper

Cabinet agreed to release the Discussion Paper ‘Extending the scope of the reportable conduct scheme in the ACT: Helping organisations become more child safe and child friendly’ for public consultation. The discussion paper addresses the Reportable Conduct Scheme, the role of child safe standards, and the need for oversight of small and volunteer organisations providing services to children.

Housing Choices Discussion Paper and Demonstration Housing

Cabinet agreed to release the Housing Choices Discussion Paper for public consultation. The discussion paper promotes urban renewal in Canberra by starting a conversation about how we can improve the diversity of housing choice to better meet the housing needs of all current and future residents.

Ministerial Statements

Cabinet agreed the following Ministerial Statements be tabled during the October/November 2017 Legislative Assembly sittings.

  • US Trade Mission (9–13 October 2017).
  • Female detainee accommodation at the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
