Summary of Cabinet Outcomes for the Week of 4 October 2017

As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.

Building and Construction Legislation Amendment Bill 2017 – Policy Approval

Cabinet agreed for the ACT Government to draft the Building and Construction Legislation Amendment Bill 2017 (the Bill) to support national reforms of the electricity sector and inter-jurisdictional work on building and construction products and compliance.

ACT Veterinary Practitioners Bill 2017 – Policy Approval

Cabinet agreed for the ACT Government to draft the Veterinary Practitioners Bill 2017 to make a number of amendments to better ensure the protection of the public, as well as the health and welfare of animals in the ACT.

Review of the ACT Planning Strategy

Cabinet agreed for the ACT Government to undertake a review of the 2012 ACT Planning Strategy. The review will assess how the ACT Planning Strategy can deliver key Government priorities, including economic growth and diversification, suburban renewal and better transport, and enhancing liveability and social inclusion.

Government Response to the ACT Auditor-Generals Report No 5/2017 – Maintenance of Selected Road Infrastructure Assets

Cabinet agreed to the ACT Government’s Response to the Auditor-General’s Report No. 5 of 2017: Maintenance of Selected Road Infrastructure Assets (the Report). The Report presents the results of a performance audit on the effectiveness of the management of selected road infrastructure assets with a focus on roads, community paths, traffic signals and streetlights.

Reportable Conduct and Information Sharing Amendment Bill 2017 - Policy Approval

Cabinet agreed for the ACT Government to draft the Reportable Conduct and Information Sharing Amendment Bill 2017 to help support information sharing amongst entities with responsibility for the care and wellbeing of children and young people.

ACT Tax Expenditure Statement 2015-16

Cabinet agreed to release the ACT Government’s ACT Tax Expenditure Statement 2015-16 (the Statement). The Statement outlines the tax concessions, exemptions, rebates and incentives provided by the ACT Government, provides information on the ACT tax system, and helps inform policy considerations.

Submission to the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee – Waste and Recycling Industry in Australia

Cabinet agreed to the ACT Government’s response to the Environment and Communications Reference Committee’s Inquiry into the waste and recycling industry in Australia. The response discusses a number of policy issues such as waste levies, movements between jurisdiction and greater transparency of the industry.
