Summer’s heroes named 2020 Canberra Citizens of the Year

All members of the ACT Emergency Services Agency and ACT Parks and Conservation have been named Canberra Citizen of the Year for 2020. This significant honour recognises their outstanding efforts and cooperation in responding to the unprecedented conditions experienced during the summer.

The ACT Government would like to thank all members of the ACT Emergency Services Agency and ACT Parks and Conservation for working tirelessly to keep Canberrans safe and for the sacrifices they have made over the summer months, missing time with their families and for many volunteers, their employment.

The Canberra Citizen of the Year is presented each year to an individual, or a group, who have made an outstanding contribution to the Canberra community.

Canberrans are invited to show their support and appreciation by attending the following events to congratulate all members of the ACT ESA and Parks and Conservation Service:

Canberra Day in the Suburbs
Saturday 7 March, 11am – 2pm
Appreciation Stations’ allowing the Canberra community to write messages of thanks to ACT Emergency Services Agency and Parks and Conservation Service.

Canberra Day
Monday 9 March, 6pm
Main Stage at the Canberra Day celebrations, John Dunmore Lang Place, Parkes. Representatives of the organisations will receive the Canberra Citizen of the Year Award.

Volunteer Family Picnic
Saturday 4 April, 11am, Tuggeranong Town Park
A relaxed picnic event to celebrate the achievements of our volunteers.
