Check In CBR mandatory from this Saturday

Released 03/03/2021 - Joint media release

From Saturday 6 March 2021, all businesses, venues and facilities restricted under the public health directions must register for and use the free Check In CBR app to collect patron contact details of anyone aged 16 years or older.

Any restricted business not already using Check In CBR will need to register and be using the Check In CBR app by Saturday 6 March 2021. To register your business, please visit: www.covid19.act.gov.au/business-and-work/check-in-cbr.

After this time, any restricted businesses that aren’t using Check In CBR will no longer be compliant with the public health directions and penalties may apply.

It will also be mandatory for patrons to check in with Check In CBR.

Restricted businesses, venues and facilities must take reasonable steps to ensure patrons check in.

Importantly, a new business profile function on the app has been introduced to help businesses to check in people who may not have a smart phone or are unable to do so themselves.

Currently, over 8,000 businesses and venues have registered with the Check In CBR app, and over 396,000 people have downloaded it for use, with many people already using it regularly.

Canberrans should feel assured that their information will only be accessed if needed for contact tracing purposes. The information will not be accessed for any other purpose. Contact details are also deleted after 28 days.

If there is no Check In CBR QR code available in a restricted business or venue, an individual may report non-compliance through the form available online.

Compliance and enforcement agencies will continue to ensure businesses are following the public health directions.

Businesses that fail to comply with the public health direction can be issued with an infringement notice. For businesses owned by an individual the fine is $1,000, and for businesses owned by a corporation the fine is $5,000. A patron who refuses to check in can also be issued with a $1000 infringement notice.

Using Check In CBR is an important part of our response to COVID-19. Check In CBR is free, easy and secure to implement and use, and importantly, provides the ability to contact trace quickly and accurately should there be a new case of COVID-19 reported in the ACT. It also removes the administrative burden for businesses, with them no longer needing to provide details to ACT Health if contact tracing is required.
