Braddon Busking Hub to amplify local musical talent

Released 15/03/2024

The City Renewal Authority and Music ACT are helping support local musicians with the launch of Braddon Busking Hub.

This new initiative aims to enliven Braddon’s street experience through busking, while providing artists with revenue opportunities and performance platforms.

Braddon Busking Hub is providing an easier and safer way for buskers to receive payments. Official Braddon Busking Hub signage with QR codes will promote consumer confidence in electronic payments and establish a sustainable framework for artists to earn financial returns from their performances.

Minister for the Arts Tara Cheyne says that this initiative will benefit the music industry as it will provide a stronger avenue for up-and-coming musicians. It is about creating a cultural experience in Braddon.

“Braddon Busking Hub is dedicated to fostering a busking culture in Braddon. We are providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and earn money for it.

"By working closely with buskers and businesses, we will fine-tune this pilot program to ensure it enriches the community and supports the arts.

"Our goal is to create an active and lively culture of busking in Braddon, where artists can showcase their talents. By supporting buskers, we aim to activate the streets of Braddon and provide a platform for our wonderful and talented artists," Minister Cheyne said.

To gain assistance through Braddon Busking Hub, interested musicians can submit an inquiry on the Braddon Busking Hub website to receive an information pack outlining the next steps. As part of the application process, buskers are required to submit a short video showcasing their musical talents.

"Braddon is the perfect place for a busker to be seen and heard," says Ava Martina, a musician and supporter of Braddon Busking Hub.

“It’s the perfect place to just chill out in a corner and play some music. There is nothing I love more than watching people walk by and just have a smile on their face because you’re playing some music in an unexpected place.”

“I’ve done a little bit of busking in Canberra, but I’ve never really known which places to go, or there hasn’t really been a dedicated street where I’ve seen lots of buskers. Braddon Busking Hub makes it possible to reach new listeners in such a central part of the city,” Ava said.

Braddon Busking Hub is a pilot program that is endorsed by MusicACT, an organisation dedicated to supporting the music industry in Canberra.
