Nominations open for the 2024 ACT Book of the Year!

Released 18/02/2024

Nominations are now open for the 2024 ACT Book of the Year Award. The award recognises quality contemporary literary works including fiction, non-fiction and poetry by Canberra authors published in the previous calendar year.

The ACT Book of the Year Award rewards excellence in literature with prizes of $10,000 for the winner, $2,000 for any highly commended books and $1,000 for each short-listed book. The Award aims to support the development of local writers, promoting writing in the ACT, and contributing to a positive writing culture for the city.

Nominations will be considered by an independent judging panel, which recommends a shortlist and the winning author to the Minister for the Arts.

Minister for the Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Tara Cheyne said, “The ACT Book of the Year Award nominations are now open and I encourage all local authors to put forward nominations for their latest book. This is not only an opportunity for Canberra authors to be celebrated for their outstanding works, but also to shine a light on the high calibre of talent in our local writing community overall. Showcasing the ACT community’s flair for fiction, narrative, poetry, memoir and history can inspire those who know they have a book in them to put pen to paper and gift their creativity to us.”

You can nominate here. Nominations for the 2024 ACT Book of the Year will close at 5.00pm on Thursday, 28 March 2024.
