$345,000 available in heritage grants program

Released 17/03/2018

Applications are now open for the 2018-19 ACT heritage grants program, Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman announced today.

“Canberra is blessed to have a diverse range of local heritage ranging from Aboriginal artefacts through to early European settlement and even to modern architecture,” Minister Gentleman said.

“The latest round of the heritage grants program will provide $345,000 to identify and carry out projects that promote and conserve our local heritage.

“Projects undertaken in the past have ranged from conservation works, oral histories, festivals and exhibitions.

“Applications for the 2018-19 round are open to individuals, community groups and incorporated non-profit or private organisations and I strongly encourage those members of the community with an interest in protecting and celebrating our heritage to apply for this funding.”

Priorities for the 2018-19 round are:

  • conservation works and projects that enable the continued use of and access to places entered on the ACT Heritage Register
  • conservation management plans
  • community projects that increase the utilisation, awareness and engagement in heritage places through education (of all ages), oral histories, tourism, interpretation and events
  • Aboriginal projects initiated by or involving the local Aboriginal community in local heritage activities
  • projects that provide partnership opportunities between community organisations and ACT government agencies and
  • projects that prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

“The heritage grants have been running for nearly thirty years and have been essential in supporting the community to help protect our heritage places and objects,” Minister Gentleman said.

Grant application packs are available from www.environment.act.gov.au/heritage or by phoning 6207 2160.

Applications close Friday 11 May 2018 and successful applications are scheduled to be announced in September 2018.
