Minister assisting the Chief Minister on Advanced Technology and Space Industries Mick Gentleman has today launched a new Training Security Operations Centre (TSOC) and tech-collaboration space at Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Reid, addressing growing industry demands in cyber security.
The ACT Government is pleased to contribute $700,000 to this leading-edge training facility to help industry meet the estimated 20,000 job shortages nationwide in cyber security over the next 10 years. This announcement furthers Canberra’s leadership in this key growth industry of the future.
CIT has fast-tracked curriculum development and already trained 168 students since March 2018 to fuel this high-growth sector.
The addition of the TSOC will enhance student experience with a simulated workplace for real-world skills development. Integral to the facility is the interactive virtual cybersecurity platform Penteract, created by local firm by Fifth Domain, which is designed to simulate real cyber security threats.
The TSOC facility has been funded by Austcyber and the ACT Government and is a collaboration between CIT, local firm Nova Systems, Fifth Domain, and ANU.
The TSOC further positions the ACT as the driver of contemporary cyber security training both nationally and globally. Capability within the facility will allow start-ups to showcase and test their new products to clients and will help future-proof government and business through the upskilling of employees in cyber security training.
