New supermarket for Dickson Centre

Released 11/07/2019

After years of discussion and community engagement, Canberrans in the Inner North are set to benefit from a new supermarket and expanded retail shopping at the Dickson centre.

The ACT Government has 'called in' Coles Property Group's Dickson development, which is the result of years of consultation with the community and includes considerable amendments to deliver better public spaces and more parking.

The decision to call in the project will provide certainty to locals and business owners in the area.

The Government has taken into account community concerns such as temporary off-site parking during construction, traffic management and the preservation of the Dickson Library.

Hundreds of jobs will be created during construction along with 164 retail jobs once the development is complete demonstrating my commitment to supporting local jobs.

Coles Property Group consulted extensively with the community following their original development proposal in 2016 and has made several changes.

Public feedback has informed the new development's design, which will create better public spaces in the centre.

More than 655 permanent car parks will also be created at the centre, as well as improved footpaths and landscaping. The development fits with our planning strategy by providing more housing choices close to the light rail and the city.

Coles Property Group is expected to start in the next 6 months and complete the development around two years after construction begins.
