Released 26/11/2021

Ten ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) firefighters will begin leading fire crews after successfully completing a 16-week development program and achieving promotion to the rank of Station Officer.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman said the community will continue to be in safe hands with the addition of the new Station Officers.

“The ACT Government is committed to providing Canberra with highly trained and skilled firefighters, who go above and beyond to protect and support our community,” Minister Gentleman said.

“Our new Station Officers demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities and all the necessary skills to be the next generation of leaders within ACTF&R,” he said.

ACTF&R Chief Officer Matthew Mavity said the organisation prides itself on continued training and upskilling our firefighters and the provision of opportunities within the service.

“I am proud to congratulate and welcome our newly promoted Station Officers, who have continued to demonstrate the diverse skills and experiences required to undertake the varied work our firefighters do,” Chief Officer Mavity said.

“The Station Officers will be responsible for leading their crews and acting as Incident Managers for all types of emergencies, as well as the management and maintenance of station facilities, equipment and administrative functions,” he said.

Station Officers will commence their new roles over the coming weeks.
