Canberra light rail drivers wanted

Released 03/02/2018

An advertisement calling for expressions of interest to be a light rail driver has been placed in this Saturday’s Canberra Times ahead of the first stage of light rail which will begin operations soon.

Canberra Metro is seeking expressions of interest from individuals interested in being part of Canberra’s newest mode of transport as a light rail driver providing high-quality and reliable services on the 12 kilometre route from the City to Gunghalin.

Interested candidates are required to have several skills to be eligible for the roles.

“If you have a current driver’s licence, a minimum of five years driving experience on a full licence, a Working With Vulnerable People card, and customer service and conflict resolution experience, this might be the job for you,” Minister Fitzharris said.

Approximately 30 drivers will be employed to operate the light rail vehicles once the service commences.

“Successful applicants will undertake up to six weeks of training, including four weeks of classroom and practical on-track training, and two weeks with a mentor driver,” the Minister said.

Minister Fitzharris said that the roles would be offered on a permanent basis.

“While most roles will be offered full-time, Canberra Metro is a flexible workplace and encourage applications from individuals seeking flexible working environments.”

Eligible candidates can send their resume and cover letter to the Canberra Metro HR team at
