Today the ACT Government in partnership with the Molonglo Conservation Group, is launching a colouring book to inspire a generation of environmentally conscious young people in the ACT.
Minister for the Environment, Parks and Land Management Rebecca Vassarotti said the initiative seeks to enhance the connection of young Canberrans to our natural environment.
"As part of the ACT Government’s ‘Connecting Nature, Connecting People’ initiative, this colouring book equips young Canberrans with a crucial introduction to the knowledge and tools they need to become stewards of our native ecosystems.
“The Molonglo Conservation Group have produced the ‘Species in our Suburbs’ colouring book as an educational tool to assist children to understand biodiversity and ecological impacts within their own community.
“This book will help foster positive change by teaching our future leaders about the importance of sustainability, taking care of our planet and sharing our environment with native species.
“This is a really important part of instilling a deep-rooted understanding of our environment early in the lives of young Canberrans.
“To celebrate the launch of this book, Molonglo Conservation Group will be hosting a territory wide colouring in competition using pages from the book.
“I’m encouraging Canberrans of all ages to get involved in learning about our local environment and enter the competition.”
