Connect with Canberra’s history at the Heritage Festival

Released 20/03/2024

The annual Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is back with more than 120 events planned to learn about Canberra’s history from exhibitions and workshops to hands on activities.

Minister for Heritage Rebecca Vassarotti said the festival is an incredible opportunity to learn about the rich history of Canberra and the region.

“The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is a much loved event on the Canberra calendar. There are so many events on offer for the community to learn, share and celebrate our wonderful heritage and the unique stories of places and people that have lived here,” Minister Vassarotti said.

“This year’s festival theme is ‘Connections’, which aims to celebrate and strengthen the community’s historical ties to the land and to each other.

“There are many wonderful events happening this year, including a family friendly Wildbark Cultural Community Day, an open day at Yarralumla Woolshed by the National Trust, and a unique learning opportunity to explore the ACT’s heritage with geocaching.

“The full program of events is now online, so I encourage the community to go online, plan some activities for the kids during school holidays and take up this wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the region’s history and culture.

“We know Canberrans really look forward to the Heritage Festival every year, so I would also like to thank all the community and volunteer groups organising events for the festival.”

The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is on from 13 to 28 April 2024.
