Each year, the ACT Women's Awards to celebrate the women amongst us who improve the status and lives of women and girls in the ACT. Nominations are now being called for the 2020 ACT Women's Awards.
The Awards are a way of saying thank you for the excellent work women do across Canberra. The awards provide an opportunity to honour and acknowledge those Canberra women who are going beyond the norm, doing extraordinary things, with often minimal acknowledgement, to make things better for others in our community.
The three categories for nominations are:
- ACT Woman of the Year - all nominees are automatically considered in this category.
- ACT Senior Woman of the Year - nominees 60 years and over at 8 March 2020.
- ACT Young Woman of the Year - nominees 16 - 25 years at 8 March 2020.
Winners and runners up will be announced as part of International Women's Day celebrations in March 2020. Winners will be automatically included in the ACT Women's Honour Roll and will have the option of being entered for consideration for the Australian of the Year Awards.
Previous award winners have made their impact in areas as diverse as construction, science and technology, corporate governance, sports and support for new mothers.
Last years' ACT Woman of the Year was the incredible Emma Sckrabei for her outstanding work in removing barriers and stigma for women within the male-dominated construction industry and providing training and employment initiatives which specifically support women in returning to the workforce.
ACT Young Woman of the Year was Morgan Marshall for her significant work in inspiring a new generation of women to pursue STEM subjects and careers through her tireless work with Robogals Canberra.
And ACT Senior Woman of the Year, Dr Aunty Anne Martin AM, a Yuin Aboriginal woman for her support to the advancement of Indigenous rights and assisted Indigenous women more broadly, particularly in the field of education.
