Supporting outdoor play with Nature Play

Released 08/03/2019

Applications are now open for the 2019 Nature Play Grants Program for projects that support children to play outdoors, live active lives and increase participation in nature-based activities.

The ACT Government is committed to ensuring there are plenty of opportunities for Canberrans to participate in active recreation and play to enrich their everyday lives.

Organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to $15,000 to invest in equipment, promotions, and training and small capital projects to deliver outdoor nature-based activities.

Since launching Nature Play in 2016, the ACT Government has invested in more than 20 projects that connect children and their families with organisations and resources that offer quality nature-based outdoor recreation activities.

Sticks and Stones Nature Playgroup received a grant in the 2018 round and engages between 40 to 60 children, age zero to five years old, in each session.

The playgroup is held at Southern Cross Early Childhood School in Scullin and provides a variety of active, creative and imaginative play in the form of nature kitchens, crafting, cubby building and exploring with magnifying glasses.

Applications for the Nature Play Grants Program will close on Friday, 5 April 2019. For more information or to apply visit the Sport and Recreation website.
