Stromlo Leisure Centre is officially opening

Released 13/08/2020

The first splashes were made today at the ACT Government’s new Stromlo Leisure Centre ahead of the opening on Saturday 15 August 2020 to all members.

The brand-new leisure centre, which boasts state-of-the-art pools, children’s play area, gym facilities, creche, health club, café and more will be open to the public from Saturday 15 August 2020.

“The Molonglo Valley is growing rapidly, and I know that nearby residents have been eagerly awaiting the new centre opening. The new facility provides a great location for Canberrans to get fit, enjoy the pool with the family and have a coffee with friends,” said Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry.

“Between walking paths, cycling circuits, sweeping views of the mountains and equestrian trails, Stromlo Forest Park is quickly becoming a thriving hub for sport and recreation in the ACT. The addition of the Stromlo Leisure Centre provides yet another world-class facility for the community to enjoy.

“It’s important that Canberrans have access to facilities that will allow them to live a healthy and active lifestyle. The ACT consistently has the highest sport participation rates in the country and as a result. The ACT Government is committed to meeting the needs of the community.”

The centre will serve more than 100,000 Canberrans in Weston Creek, Woden and the Molonglo Valley areas and will be managed by the YMCA, a not-for-profit organisation focused on providing affordable fitness and community programs to the community.

The centre will also provide ongoing employment opportunities with more than 80 jobs created to operate the centre.
