Centenary – Youth projects and engagement Meetings.  Meetings were conducted in the reporting period with the C100 Youth Reference Group.  Met eight times with an average of 8 people between 14-18 years of age attending each meeting. The C100 Youth Reference Group provided feedback on youth-related content in the Centenary program.  The group defined their own projects to be delivered in 2013.

The group presented a surprise event as part of You Are Here's Christmas Lane on 17 March 2013. No Need to be Told was the second event to be presented by the group, as part of National Youth Week program.

Centenary - Documentary Making with Young People  Meetings.   Sprout Media, the Producers engaged by the Centenary Unit, were introduced to organisations including Communities at Work, Gallilee School, Woden School, Belconnen Community Service and Messengers.   Consultations were conducted with six service organisations and approximately 12 individuals.  45 young people and children not engaged in the mainstream school system and at risk of disconnecting, or facing other issues such as mental health or disability-related disadvantage, participated in documentary workshops held in October 2012.

Films were developed in the workshops and were screened twice at the CMAG Theatrette on 13 April 2013 as part of the Centenary of Canberra's No Need to be Told Youth Week event. 

Centenary – Centenary School Coordinator's Group A Centenary School Coordinators' Group was established and regular meetings were conducted to discuss projects that were of interest to the education sector.  Meetings were attended by ACT primary and secondary schools across all three sectors: independent, Catholic and public.   Three meetings were held in 2012-13 attended by 63 primary teachers from 51 primary schools and 30 teachers from 22 high schools/colleges from all sectors: independent, Catholic and public schools.  Schools developed their own Centenary of Canberra activities as a result of these meetings.  The Centenary School Coordinators advocated on behalf of the Centenary within their schools and were the key contact for the Canberra of Centenary Unit of within each school.

This program will continue for the remainder of 2013.

Centenary – Green Teachers Network Regular meetings.  Schools were consulted about establishing and managing a sustainability program which would have outcomes for the Centenary of Canberra.  Two meetings were held with the group of Green Teachers.  Seventeen schools have been engaged in the program throughout the reporting period.   Thirteen schools from the Green Teachers Network presented their sustainable produce at the Own Grown Market Day on 2 March 2013.

The Network is currently planning a similar event for the Kids, Creatures and 100 Harlequins children's week festival on 25 and 26 October 2013.

Centenary – Music Organisations' Network  Regular meetings.  Consultations were undertaken with key stakeholders involved in youth music in the ACT – including representatives from the Education and Training Directorate's Instrumental Music Program, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva and a number of music teachers.  Two meetings were held for the Centenary Symphony Music Education Project.  Ten representatives are currently involved in the project, plus composer Andrew Schultz.  The group has provided advice and support in the development of an adaptation of Andrew Schultz's Symphony No. 3 – Century for school bands.

This project will have an outcome for the Kids, Creatures and 100 Harlequins children's week festival on 25 October 2013. 

Centenary – Youth and Artists in Conferencing  Meetings.  Arts organisations consulted with included Megalo Print Studio, Canberra Glassworks, Canberra Contemporary Arts Space, M16 Artspace, Belconnen Arts Centre, Craft ACT and the ACT Writers Centre.  Universities consulted with included University of Canberra, Canberra Institute of Technology and the Australian National University.  The project partner, Canberra Convention Bureau, met with representatives from three universities, several times each, about youth representatives.

The Centenary Unit consulted at least once with approximately 10 different arts organisations to gather recommendations.

Six individual artists, one class of university artists, and one youth representative were directly engaged in residences/placements during the period.An additional four artists and one youth representative are already confirmed to undertake residencies/placements during the next reporting period.
Centenary – Children's Week Working Group Meetings.  The Centenary of Canberra met with the ACT Children's Week Working Group.  Approximately 12 individuals were involved in the consultation process.  The Children's Week Working Group advised on the planning of the Kids, Creatures and 100 Harlequins children's week festival scheduled for 25 and 26 October 2013. 
Centenary – Portrait of a Nation  Community engagement with, and presentations to, community groups.  Information has been uploaded onto the website by individuals in the community.

Groups and individuals engaged included Scouts ACT, Scouts Australia, Hackett Community Association, ACT Storytellers Guild, Neighbourhood Watch, ACT Place Names, History Teachers Conference, Narrabundah College and Bishop Pat Power.

Presentations were made to the Community Services Program Forum, an official delegation from the Honghe Province of China, Northside Community Service, CDNet Community Sector Forum, Gungahlin Regional Service Neighbourhood Day, Community Engagement Working Group, VIEW Club, Gungahlin Digital Hub and Northern Region Service Alliance. 

The website was launched in March 2012.

There have been 6,281 visits to the website, 29,572 page views and 68.5% return visitor rate in the reporting period.

Community engagement was undertaken with approximately 10 organisations.

Two Portrait of a Nation parties have taken place; one in Ingamells Street, Garran and the other in Griffith. 

This website project about Canberra suburb and street names is ongoing until the end of 2013.

At the end of the reporting period there are 109 entries on the website.

Centenary – Portrait of a Nation Australian Schools' Portrait Project  Community engagement opportunity for schools across Australia.  Invitations were made directly by the National Portrait Gallery to those schools that had a connection with the project.  Consultations were undertaken with schools from ACT, NSW, Tasmania, NT, Victoria and South Australia.  The website about Canberra suburb and street names was launched on 19 March 2013.

A total of 18 schools are currently registered to participate in the project:

ACT - 9 schools

NSW - 1 school

NT - 2 schools

SA - 1 school

Tas - 2 schools

Vic – 4 schools

At the end of the reporting period, two schools have uploaded their contributions to the website.  A further eight schools have indicated a date to upload their projects online. 
Centenary – Portrait of a Nation Unmade Edges  Meetings with representatives of the 'villages' of Canberra.  Consultations were undertaken with community representatives from the 'villages' of Hall, Pialligo, Oaks Estate and with Woden Community Service, which manages community engagement in Stromlo Settlement, Uriarra and Tharwa.  Consultations were conducted with approximately 10 individuals.  This project, for an event involving rural villages, is ongoing until the end of 2013.  At the end of the reporting period, Centenary of Canberra has selected an external producer to manage the project and is in the process of finalising a Services Agreement. 
Centenary – Parties at the Shops  Meetings held with local shop owners across Canberra suburbs.  Shop owners approached in person and through community networks.  The Centenary of Canberra community engagement team and the local producer met with shop owners from the following suburbs:  Bonner, Chifley, Curtin, Dickson, Hall, Higgins, Isabella Plains, Latham, New Acton, O'Connor, Waramanga, Watson, Yarralumla, Lyneham, Wanniassa, Narrabundah, Hackett, Manuka and Oaks Estate.  Meetings have been conducted with representatives from 21 suburban shops.  A main contact from each of the suburbs was established.  This project is being delivered throughout 2013.  Twenty-one parties were held in suburbs around Canberra on 12 March 2013, with an extra four presented over the following weekend.

Each party program was developed in consultation with the local community, drawing on the groups and talented artists that reside in each suburb, meaning every event was unique and a true reflection of the suburb.  Parties are being planned for an additional four suburbs in the second half of 2013.

Centenary – Parties at your Place  Community engagement undertaken with residents of public housing complexes through the Joint Champions Group, coordinated by ACT Housing and Community Services.  The Centenary community engagement team and the local producer met with residents through the Joint Champions Group.  Consultation was also undertaken with the Anglican Church, YWCA, Belconnen Community Services, Woden Community Services, Forde Community Services and Communities@Work.   Meetings have been conducted with seven organisations.  This project is ongoing until the end of 2013.  At the end of the reporting period Parties at Your Place is progressing well.

Through the assistance of community service organisations, conversations are taking place with residents in a variety of public housing complexes.

Centenary – Parties in your Village  Community engagement with representatives of the 'villages' of Canberra.  Contact made through Centenary networks and other community services and organisations.  Community engagement was undertaken with community representatives from the 'villages' of Canberra:  Uriarra, Tharwa, Hall, Pialligo, Oaks Estate and Stromlo and Northside, Southside and Woden Community Services.  Consultations were conducted with approximately 10 organisations and community groups.  This project is ongoing until the end of 2013.  Event planning is underway for 'parties' in Stromlo Settlement and Tharwa in the springtime.  Planning has also commenced with Oaks Estate and Pialligo. 
Centenary – SPIN: Canberra's Weekends on Wheels  Broad engagement was undertaken involving numerous community groups and individuals.  Community groups invited to participate in the development of the project included Live Experience Access Develop [LEAD], Warehouse Circus, Melba Copland Chopper Schools Program, ACT Council of Motor Clubs, Motor Traders Association of the ACT, Ausdance, Canberra Roller Derby League, Morris Club of the ACT, National Trust (ACT) and the Canberra Institute of Technology.   Meetings have been conducted with 10 organisations.  SPIN will be delivered in October 2013.  Community organisations have been involved in developing creative content, performances and community activities for the event.  Community organisations have also been involved in the creation of bicycles for the 'Canberra Pursuit' project. 
Centenary – SPIN: Hub Capital  Community engagement was undertaken involving meetings with numerous community groups.  Community groups actively participating in the project include Canberra Spinners and Weavers, Canberra Potters Society, Last Man Stands Cricket, Australian Flying Disc Association, DiscACT, Canberra Skateboarding Association, Freestyle ACT BMX, Community Cultural Inclusion Office, Australian Railway Historical Society (ACT), Canberra Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, Alternative Cycling Events, ACT Motorcycle Club, Trials Club of Canberra, Southern District Motorsports Association, Enable Development and Sport Matters.  Meetings have been conducted with 22 community organisations and six individuals  SPIN will be delivered in October 2013.  Community organisations have been involved in developing creative content, performances and community activities for the event.

Community organisations have also been involved in the creation of bicycles for the 'Canberra Pursuit' project.  Sixteen community groups are participating in the SPIN Hub Capital event.

Centenary – City of Trees  Meetings with members of the community undertaken by the creative team during residencies as part of the development of the project.  Community members were also asked to directly contribute to the project in the form of poetry for audio works.  Groups engaged in the project include the Friends of the ACT Arboreta, Friends of the Arboretum, Australian Garden History Society, Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra Ornithologists Group, First Canberra Garden Club, Canberra Bonsai Society,  ACT Jewish Community, Giralang Primary School, TAMSD Urban Forest Team, The National Arboretum, ANU Fenner School and Furniture Workshop and Murrumbung Yurung Murra Indigenous Rangers Group.   Approximately 100 people were consulted during the development of the project, with 82 people recorded as part of the project.  Three hours of City of Trees by Jyll Bradley audioworks including the voices and poetry of community members have been created.

The City of Trees exhibition at the National Library of Australia will be delivered in 2013-14.

 

Centenary – Multicultural Focus Group  Face-to-face meetings have been held with representatives from the ACT multicultural community.  Groups attending meetings include the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Canberra Multicultural Community Forum, Muslim Voice, ACT Community Language Schools Association, Ethnic Broadcasters Council of ACT, CMCF Multicultural Radio program, India in the City, Delegation of the European Union to Australia, Greek Glendi, Pacific Islander Showcase, Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services and the ACT Community Cultural Inclusion Officer.   Three focus group meetings were held, with 11 organisations and approximately 20 representatives in attendance.  Numerous follow-up meetings with individual groups have been undertaken to fully engage with the multicultural community groups.  The multicultural projects and ideas emerged from the Centenary Multicultural Focus Group, including HOME, the Harmony Bus and the Future Journey of Democracy: an Australian experience. 
Centenary – Indigenous Reference Group  Meetings.   Representatives from the Indigenous community and representatives from the Centenary of Canberra's Indigenous Cultural Program Producer, HHO Events.  Five meetings were held, with approximately 10 people at each meeting.  The Indigenous Reference Group provided feedback on Indigenous Cultural Program content and planning.  They also provided information and advice on protocols including Welcome to Country and acknowledgements.  Members of the group also contributed to the development of the program for the Inside Out forum to be held on 11 and 12 July 2013.

2013-14 Budget Consultation Process  The 2013-14 Budget Consultation process was launched on Tuesday, 18 December 2012.

The community was encouraged to submit all ideas and comments directly through the Budget Consultation Website.

The Budget Consultation process was publicised through social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and the ACT Government's Time to Talk website.  Additionally over 250 community groups, businesses and unions received a letter inviting them participate. 

Community and business groups, unions, individual Canberrans and other stakeholders.  Available to all members of the community.  The community consultation process for the 2013-14 Budget closed on 28 February 2013.

The Government received 104 written submissions.

ACT Taxation Reform  Community Consultation Roundtable 26 July 2012.  Representatives of stakeholder groups, including industry and community organisations and peak bodies:

Anglicare, CARE Financial Counselling, Citizens Advice Bureau, National Disability Services, People with Disabilities, Streetlaw,Welfare Rights and Legal Centre and Woden Community Services.

Approximately 15 attendees representing 9 stakeholder groups.   The Treasurer discussed various elements of his five year taxation reform plan outlined in the 2012-13 Budget.  This process allowed for industry representatives to comment on the reforms and identify any issues that could be addressed moving forward.

National Occupational Licensing  National consultation process including public information sessions in Canberra on 29 and 31 August 2012.  Representatives of stakeholder groups, including industry and peak bodies.  Sixty stakeholders attended the ACT's information sessions.  Nationally around 2,500 submissions were received.  Directorate representatives participated in a national consultation program for occupational licensing reform following the release of draft Regulatory Impact Statements (RISs).  The process contributed to the finalisation of reform RISs, which are subject to further state-based consultation processes in 2013-14.
